I have a really hard time putting bait on hooks?

Me and my boyfriend went fishing and i tried really hard, but i just couldn't put the poor lil minnows on the hook... He got really mad at me because I was kind of freaking out because i mean they are alive and wriggling and I just felt so bad. Will this get better with time or will I always be such a whimp? What do you suggest I do?
