Longboard or Regular Skateboard?

Right now I have a normal skateboard deck with longboard wheels and risers. I just got it out a few weeks ago from storage and have been using it for cruising. My question is- would there me any advantage to switching to a longboard deck from what I have now (a regular deck with risers). I want to cruise, no tricks or anything. I am also a rank beginner.
