Yes it's possible, ever since the Earth's atmosphere formed it's been going on. The earth goes through stages of extreme cold and extreme heat. Even though this does happen, pollution from skyrocketing population rates are causing the polar ice caps at both the north and south pole to melt.Even if our enviroment was going through a period of increasing heat, the pollution is no doubt increasing the process by a substantial amout.
