Flea bites vs bedbug bites?

It is very difficult to discriminate one type of bite from another. If fleas, you should see small black specks on the sheets and other signs. If bed bugs, your mattress would be stained along the seams. Given that you have a cat, and that fleas are the most common cause of the symptoms you describe, I'd bet on fleas being the problem.
