Varicose veins and leg / foot swelling?

I am scheduled to have my vericose veins removed sometime in January, question is ..I have major swelling of my feet and lower legs, will this go away after my surgery ( after healing time)? Been miserable with this for years and in the last 6 months it has gotten progressively worse. compression stockings or walking no longer help to releave the pain and swelling. Happy I am finally getting this done but am concerned that with the surgery and re-routing of blood will the swelling be relieved?
